Demodex (Blepharitis)

​Blepharitis is an inflammation of the eyelids that can cause redness, irritation, and crusting around the eyelashes. It’s a common condition that affects people of all ages and often occurs when tiny oil glands near the base of the eyelashes become clogged or infected.
                                  Common Symptoms:

• Red, swollen, or itchy eyelids
• A gritty or burning sensation in the eyes
• Crusty flakes around the eyelashes (especially in the morning)
• Watery eyes or sensitivity to light
• Feeling like something is in your eye
  
                            How We Treat It:
• IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) or LLLT (Low-Level Light Therapy) to help unblock glands and reduce inflammation
• Lid hygiene with specialty wipes or cleansers, we sell them in store. They work amazing and are Dr. Duong approved!

Meibomian Gland Dysfunction or Dry Eyes

Meibomian Gland Dysfunction occurs when the tiny oil glands in your eyelids (called meibomian glands) become blocked or don’t produce enough oil. These glands are responsible for releasing oils that keep your tears from evaporating too quickly, helping your eyes stay comfortable and hydrated.
When these glands aren’t working properly, it can lead to dry, irritated eyes and other symptoms of chronic dry eye disease.

• Burning, stinging, or irritated eyes
• Grittiness or feeling like something is in your eye
• Watery eyes (from dryness)
• Redness or inflammation
• Blurry vision that comes and goes
• Eyelid tenderness or crusting

Treating MGD focuses on clearing the blocked glands and restoring healthy oil flow to improve tear quality.
Treatment options may include:

• LLLT (Low-Level Light Therapy) — both help melt and release hardened oils and reduce inflammation.

Macular Degeneration

​Macular Degeneration, also known as Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD), is a common eye condition that affects the macula, the small, central part of the retina responsible for sharp, detailed vision. When the macula becomes damaged, it can cause blurred or distorted central vision, making it difficult to read, drive, or recognize faces.
AMD is one of the leading causes of vision loss in adults over 50, but early detection and treatment can help slow its progression and preserve sight.
​                            Types of Macular Degeneration:
   1)  Dry (Atrophic) AMD

• This is the most common form, accounting for about 80–90% of all cases.
• It happens when the macula gradually thins and tiny yellow deposits called drusen build up under the retina.
• Vision changes are usually slow and gradual.​

​    2)  Wet (Neovascular) AMD

• This is the less common but more severe form of AMD.
• It occurs when abnormal blood vessels grow under the retina and leak fluid or blood, leading to rapid vision loss.
• Treatment: Early detection is crucial. Treatments may include anti-VEGF injections, laser therapy, or photodynamic therapy to stop or slow abnormal vessel growth.

• Blurry or fuzzy central vision
• Dark or blank spots in the center of your vision
• Distorted or wavy lines (straight lines appear bent)
• Colors appearing less bright or vivid
• Difficulty reading or recognizing faces

                                       How We Can Help:
MacuHealth is a nutritional supplement focused on supporting the macula (the central part of the retina) and eye health.
Its formula is based on three carotenoids: Lutein, Meso-Zeaxanthin, and Zeaxanthin in a 10 : 10 : 2 ratio (mg).

Neurolens

​Neurolens is a type of prescription eyeglasses lens that includes a contoured prism. It’s designed to help people whose eyes are slightly misaligned (binocular vision dysfunction / eye-misalignment) in a way that causes symptoms like headaches, eye strain, neck or shoulder pain, motion sensitivity, or dry eyes. 
It also uses a questionnaire about symptoms to see how severe they are.
Based on those measurements, a custom lens is made that incorporates contoured prism. Basically, the prism component changes gradually across the lens (e.g. more prism when looking down/near vs distance) to better match how your eyes work in real life. The goal is to reduce the strain on eye muscles and on nerves (notably the trigeminal nerve) that occurs when your brain is working extra hard to make the two eyes work together.
