What is IPL and LLLT?
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) :
This is a non-invasive light therapy that emits a broad spectrum of light in pulses. Unlike a laser, which uses a single wavelength, IPL delivers multiple wavelengths that can be filtered to target specific chromophores (pigments or blood vessels) in the skin or tissues.
The light is absorbed by melanin (pigment) or hemoglobin (in blood vessels), converted to heat, and thereby either breaks down the target (e.g. pigment spot, vessel) or stimulates a biological response (e.g. collagen formation).
IPL has long been used in dermatology for aesthetic and skin-health applications. More recently, IPL has been adapted in ophthalmology and eye care to help treat conditions related to the eyelids and surface of the eye (notably meibomian gland dysfunction).
LLLT (Low Level Light Therapy) : Low-Level Light Therapy (also called photobiomodulation) uses gentle red and near-infrared light to stimulate cellular repair, reduce inflammation, and promote healing. Unlike aggressive lasers, LLLT doesn’t cut or burn; it works by enhancing natural biological processes. With this treatment it helps with fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, sun damage, pigment irregularities and dry eye treatment!
